ABOUT AFCR
Adoptive Families of the Capital Region has a history of supporting adoptive families that goes back to the early 1980's.
Our mission is:
- To educate and support families formed through adoption and those considering adoption.
- To empower our children through formation of positive identity and self-esteem.
- To respect and celebrate our children's ethnic or cultural background.
- To promote understanding and acceptance of differences.
- To promote a positive image of adoption in the community.
- To advocate formally and informally for the needs of our children and families.
We offer our members:
- Free educational programs and discounts to some cultural events
- Opportunities for networking
- Adoptive family playgroup
Our membership represents families formed through domestic infant, older child, special needs, foster care and international adoption from over 20 countries. We also have prospective parents and adoption professionals as members. AFCR serves a 10-county area with meetings primarily held in Albany county.
AFCR is not a child placement service. Our purpose is to provide information and support to individuals, families and organizations.
